As well as lots of work getting ready to send work out. AAF in March and GX will have a large stand and just four artists so hope to get my biggest ever showing at AAF London Battersea Park, I am sure they can get you tickets if you ask them.
Also getting ready to send work for a three person show at a fantastic new Gallery for me in Surrey McAlister & Thomas and have been taken on as one of their stable of artists which include David Atkins an artist whose work I actually have on my wall and a peice hidden away as we swapped years ago. Also have to get work ready for show in Leeds Gallery with famous artist Tom Wood thats in March and will post details nearer the time. In the meantime here is some new work.

Still working as hard as ever and getting much more self critical as to when a peice is finished or just needs to be painted over. Threw out over 500 works recently trying to more ruthless about quality.
Painted over old work for last two years, must have painted over 300 or more and still more to do.
This week I painted these well more but only these are being kept rest tweeked or painted over AGAIN! exhausting but hey I still love it. peace!

After much soul searching the last two weeks has seen me withdraw my work from seven galleries and more to do in the coming months. A brave or foolish thing to do is yet to be revealed.
Below are some recent pieces. I am now back in the studio and been exploding with paint a right messy affair I can assure you. So I will post the results soon still drying and still to decide if any good.
I am being much harder on what is good enough and what isn't ie editing and now some of the work has as many as five paintings underneath, more sometimes.
These are a mixture of outdoor work slightly touched up and studio work, feeling very unsure about what to do but completely contradicting on previous enteries now find myself back in the studio being totally wild just can't help myself. But I do think its good to try different things and will continue to work on plein air and studio work and work from imagination.

Okay really getting into this now. Its harder work but the information you get in terms of colour is so much better than photos. I know its gonna take me a while to get good but not afraid of hard work and trust me this is. Its a change of direction thats been building for three years not sure if its a good move? any comments? oh well heres hoping it is the right direction got to follow my gut instinct or I would be a liar and unhappy.

JACK SEVENS ART YARD, Chestergate, Macclesfield, SK11 6

On 17th June a new Gallery opens in Macclesfield I will be having a solo show at Jack Sevens on Chestergate as part of the Barnaby Festival. Opens at 10am until 6pm on 17/18 and on 19th June 10am -6pm. Full details on Barnaby Festival website, google search and you'll easily find it along with details of all the other amazing events going on trust me there is a lot to see and do. As the gallery is still being worked on this will be a short show but we will be back with another show later again with completely new work fresh of the easal!!!

I will post a more comprehensive selection of work in this first show just before the 17th, hope you can make it.

It is really hard work taking and fetch pictures from all across the UK in the vain hope that one day it will all prove worthwhile. Some Galleries I probably wouldn't show in but most I would. I don't have a problem because its better to be out being seen adding something to the world. Fed up of living in a judgemental world where people who are always trying to add something just get put down for not being good enough not selling enough not famous enough not rich enough sometimes you have to face facts .... with some people you can never ever be an equal .. so stuff em. All you Artists out there just do it and put it out and remeber you are adding something your doing something not just critisizing everything and everyone. Bless you all for writing, painting making music or acting whatever your creating may it be wonderful X

Bluebells

Been painting Bluebells all week damned hard work doing these large canvases. The rewards for going out and painting on location are good but it is much harder work having to compose and restrict what you paint. You have an ever expanding view and you have to decide what you are painting and imagine this frame around it, and that is very hard. To see the colours that really is hard and something I am struggling with but know it will be worthwile in the end. I must look a complete head case with me shopping trolley, rucksack and large laundry bag.

A journey

This is a recent oil Daffs and Damson Blossom. Not sure where I going or what I am doing.

Sometimes I want to tighten up then I think it ends up looking cliche stayed not alive, then sometimes it feels to loose to abstract and formuliac if I get to wild. I guess I am trying to find a balance between what is represented and making something unique and beautiful in its own right. Think I need to go out and get wild again but maybe not arrgh such dilema. It is very hard to push forward and create rather than reproduce.

Don't want to reproduce I want to create and you know what it is really really difficult to keep pushing forward and become all you can be.

New Gallery

Exciting news a new Gallery called Jack Sevens is opening in Macclesfield, Chesire. This is going to be a very classy gallery with double height gallery space with a whole wall of glass letting in a lot of light. There will be a courtyard entrance and promises to be a really excitng space. They open in June and yours truly has been asked to open proceedings with a one person show. Will keep you all informed as more details emerge.
Opening night is planned for 17th June with a private view on the 24th June.
These are just two of the works included in the show.

Derbyshire Landscapes group show

Gallery Top in Rowsley near Matlock in Derbyshire are opening this month on the 16th with a group show of Derbyshire Landscape. They have taken 11 works all 16 x 16 so if you are in the area take a look.
This is an earlier work of Dovedale which is included in the show.

April Showers

Hopefully we should get some rain soon because we really need some. If the natural cycle is being altered then it does beg the question is this natural or is it us. Certainly all the things that are happening were predicted by the greens etc way back, I think it makes sense one cannot keep going at this rate. We will end up with only humans and machines and Nature will become this freak show that we all stare at in wonder.
I don't think it will be the end of the world but it will be very sad to destroy the most beautiful things Life has to offer and that we think we are in control is just a dumb illusion.
Anyway I continue to paint like someone I haven't got long left. It's like some sort of sixth sense I don't think I will make it very big and I think I will be dead soon, I hope not, maybe thats something lots of people think maybe its something working class peop[le say to themselves so they don't feel so bad about not achieving and besides that's what they have been taught, that while not entirley worthless you are almost entirely worthless. Where as the better off expect to achieve and are taught as such. Still is doesn't stop me fighting but to be good for me not the World. The World can go to hell in terms of what it thinks about my Art I don't care I am not doing it for other people I am driven to become good for me.
Okay that's my rant over for now!!

This is a late afternoon view and typical of spring and it's Derbyshire! going out and painting on location again. Even done some daffodils now that's not very rock'n roll is it? Follow your heart not what you think people want ...ever! your heart your story your song it's unique and beautiful for it.

Spring is springing

Can't seem to stay away from the Lakes as a subject, hardly likely to get me any brownie points in the serious Contemporary Art world but do I care! I think the fact that when I first started to paint I saw myself as a painter of the Lakes, it was a great draw to me absolutely fell in love with the place. Despite having been brought up in the Pennines near Appleby I only remember ever going to the Lakes once with my family. It wasn't until I was 17 three years after we had moved to Penrith area that I truly discovered the Lakes and Ullswater in particular. So many times people live surrouded by great beauty but fail to see it, not always allowing themselves time to really soak up the granduer of Nature.

This ones not in the Lakes but could be! its in Derbyshire just to remind you that the miracle of Nature will take us from bare branches to this in about three/four months.

Making progress

I have really just got down to hard work since the Monday after show opened. I like to think I am making progress and getting looser with application. As ever its a tricky balance between making this an object in its own right and describing what is there. Of one thing I do feel sure about is that it is the Landscape that draws me in and seems to take over as though there is some deeper dialogue going on between what I paint and my feelings about the world, life, freinds, family and conversations. I love the unpreachiness of it, the timeless quality the deep felt mood in conjours up in us and the memories it can stir. Took me twenty years to get right back to where I started Landscape! ain't Life funny.

GX show opens

Always a bit nervous before a show and always frightened this is the end, so it was with great trepidation I approached the Gallery on Friday night half an hour early. As it turned out I already had customers waiting so armed with my only glass of wine I actually had during the show I went to chat. At that stage I still hadn't seen the whole show myself, I knew what they had but the layout etc wasn't sure but I totally trusted them as they always do a good job. Well from that moment on I hardley got to move still never got to see the whole show until the very end of the night. It was so busy, never seen it so full for one of my shows and they kept coming which is great, however with so many I must say sorry to all those whom I didn't get to speak with.

Welcome

Okay this is all a bit new so need some time to settle in. My plan is to use this to keep everyone up to date.

Have not updated website for two years now very bad I know but work just takes me over. New updated website should be up and running by next week. http://www.colinhallidayart.co.uk/

I have been busy preparing two one person shows " The Earth Beneath Us " is now on at Mooch Art in the Triangle in Manchester and runs until 17th March. Work is also ready to be viewed at GX Gallery in London although show doesn't open until 4th March, and of course you are all welcome to come along to that.

Keeping this first entry short but I have lots of exciting news to bring about future events so keep looking here for the latest updates.
